SUMMIT needs adult leaders

The High School Youth Ministry is looking for more adult leaders!  We have many opportunities available.  One particular position we need to fill as soon as possible is a song leader for Sunday evenings from 6:30-7:00 p.m.  We are also looking for volunteers to take care of arranging the food (at no cost to you).  Summit youth leader meetings are on the first Sunday of each month at 5:30, we would love to have additional participation.  If you are interested in helping out please call Michelle Olson, Director of Youth Ministry at 847-223-4111 x 232.

Men's Work Weekend at Lutherdale

Men's Work Weekend at Lutherdale - May 6-7, 2005. This is a great opportunity to do what men like best - fix and build things. Lutherdale Bible Camp in Elkhorn, WI gives us the opportunity to come together with our time and talents to benefit kids from the surrounding area. This is a time to strengthen our spiritual relationship with Christ through worship, meals, music and a special work project coupled with fellowship. Arrival time is 7:00pm on Friday night where a light meal is served followed by Bible study and music. Housing is provided at the Adult Retreat Center. Departure time is on Saturday at 4:00pm. The total cost is only $17.00. Please pray about this opportunity and see if God is leading you to spend some quality time with other Men of God. For further information please contact Gary Edwards at 847-548-7291 or via e-mail at gedwards@db3broadband.com.

Anti-Racism, Multicultural Task Force

First meeting for the Anti-Racism, Multicultural Task Force will be held on Sunday April 3, at noon in the church library. We invite all to come who are interested or curious about this work. If you would like more information on this group please contact Debbie Crouse at 847-356-7992 or email her at flutnut@aol.com.

That’s My Pan!

In honor of Mother’s Day (May 7), Sunday’s Cool will be having a baking pan sale in April to raise funds for the Lake County Haven, a traditional shelter for Moms and their children.  “That’s My Pan” is a personalized 9 x 13 aluminum cake/brownie pan.  You can have a name engraved on the lid and bottom of the pan.  It’s the perfect gift!  Adult volunteers are needed between all services in April to supervise students check orders, handle payments and organize the pick up of orders.  If you have been wanting to help with a short-term project that will benefit people in need, contact Kathy Kerner at 847-548-5052 or dakamake@sbcglobal.net.  For information on the LCH go to www.LakeCountyHaven.org

Precious Lambs Preschool needs to play

As the warmer weather approaches, the lambs want to go outside and play. We are in need of some outside items to give the lambs more fun then ever imagined. We are looking for NEW chalk, hula hoops, bubbles, outside balls, jump ropes and other similar, safe outside toys. If you can donate any of these items, please see Deb Schardt in the preschool office or call her at 847-223-1788.  Thanks so much for your support of this ministry.  We are so blessed.

Nursery needs “ewe”

Whether your children use the nursery or you would just like to lend a hand, please prayerfully consider these volunteer opportunities for the health and safety of our little children in the nursery:

Toy Bleacher:

1 X per week take home toys from the nursery and soak them in bleach water.  This can be done any day/time between Sunday 12pm and Friday at your home.  Three volunteers are needed to help with this wellness project.

Equipment Wiper:

1 X per week wipe down the equipment with disinfectant wipes (table, chairs, kids’ kitchen set, etc.).  1 or 2 people could volunteer to help with this.

Nursery Organizer/Safety Checker:

1 X per week check the equipment and toys for safety (small parts, broken, etc.) and tidy up the nursery making sure all items are put in their correct places.  We have new storage organizers and a bookshelf that will be put together soon for the nursery.

Carpet Cleaner:

1 X per month use the church carpet cleaner and shampoo the carpet in the nursery.  1 volunteer needed.

Adult Supervisors:

Supervise check in/out and make sure all little ones are registered.  Lend a helping hand for a crying child as needed.  Retrieve parents from church when needed.  You can volunteer once a month, twice a month, or every weekend.  We are flexible but need “ewe”!

For more details or to volunteer, contact Aubrey Albert at 847-223-4111 x224 or sundayscool@shepherdofthelakes.org.  Johniece Johnson will continue with job training and scheduling our youth for the nursery. Tina Vaughn will be scheduling adult supervisors.

Baby Shower for SOTL Nursery!

A “baby shower” for our nursery will be held on April 9th and 10th.  A gift registry is available (Aubrey Albert’s name) at Target (in-store, online) for anyone interested in donating new items for the nursery.  All items selected are child safe and for ages 3 and younger.

Holiday Boutique Donations Needed

Stitch ‘n Tie and Senior Shepherds will be hosting a Holiday Boutique Sale October 28-29, 2005.  Proceeds will go towards a new coffee pot for the kitchen.  They invite anyone to donate hand made items toward this sale.  More details will be available at a later date.  For more information, contact Kathy Lyman at 815-385-3954 or Mary Whittington at 847-223-5569.

Help needed with "Security Ministry"

This ministry will entail coming to the church between 1 and 3 a.m. and checking all of the doors. As the security detail checks each door, we need them to pray as they walk the perimeter of the property---pray for God's direction for the DnA team, pray for the leadership of the church, pray for the congregants, and pray for the church grounds that God might place a hedge of protection around it and those who visit the property. Anyone interested in this ministry should contact Cecelia Blue at 847-223-4111 x225.

Vacation Bible School will be here before we know it!  Contact Paula Isaacson 847.548.2895 or Kristin Herrmann 847.543.8843, SOTL’s VBS Co-Coordinators for information or to volunteer for this fun-filled week.  Planning is already underway and we need you!  Mark your calendars for a fun-filled week, June 13-17, at SOTL this year.

Worship Servers Needed

The following servers are needed at all services throughout the year:

·         Assisting Ministers -- Help the Pastor during worship services by reading the statements of faith, call to worship and community prayers. Also help with Communion and baptisms.

·         A/V Team -- Video editors are needed.

·         Communion Assistants -- Distribute wafers and wine/grape juice during Communion.

·         Communion preparation -- Prepare the chalices and wafers for Communion. Make sure the information and items needed for any Baptisms are on the altar. This can be done on Saturday or between services on Sunday mornings.

·         Counters -- After the last service this team counts the offerings and deposits the money at National City in Grayslake. This takes about an hour.

·         Drama Team -- Prop people are needed to take down and put up the risers, prepare the stage for dramas and perhaps help find props for the particular drama. Time would be only when dramas are planned as part of the worship.

·         Worship Center Hosts -- These friendly folks hand out the bulletins, release pews for communion, collect the offering and clean up the aisles of discarded bulletins after the service.

Please contact Dave Pilkington at dpilkington@shepherdofthelakes.org or at 847-223-4111 to serve or if you have questions.

Join Hands on May 7th

Do you want to improve our community, engage young people in volunteerism and have some fun? The sixth annual Join Hands Day will be on Saturday, May 7, 2005. This national day of volunteering is for people of all generations as youth and adults come together to plan and conduct activities to improve their communities. Join Hands Day is sponsored by America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies, in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a major supporter of this special day. Last year, members conducted more than 3,000 activities across the country, everything from cleaning up city parks to helping seniors.

The Northwest Lake County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans encourages you to consider conducting a Join Hands Day activity and helping our community. Find a need and form a service team of individuals from six separate Thrivent Financial households. We have many resources to help make your activity great, such as:

§         A Quick Reference Guide/Checklist that includes everything you’d need to know to conduct a successful Join Hands Day activity and receive funding from the chapter.

§         Promotional items to help you recruit volunteers and publicize your activity for optimum attendance.

§         Funding to purchase T-shirts, refreshments, supplies and more.

While chapter service teams are encouraged to conduct Join Hands Day activities on May 7, they may conduct activities between April 1 and June 30. (However, only activities held on May 7 will be considered for national recognition by Join Hands Day.)  Contact a Thrivent Financial congregational coordinator at your church or Kim Miessler, Congregational Services Team Director, at 847-587-7963 or kimberly71868@sbcglobal.net for more information.
